Ham Yard Hotel, Soho
Tucked away in a beautiful courtyard between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus tube stations, this sleek, design-led hidden gem has one of the best afternoon tea offerings in London in stunning surroundings and at a reasonable price to boot.
Ham Yard’s team were more than happy to accommodate our (slightly high-maintenance) requests when we organised a baby shower there. From agreeing to add additional decorations on the tea displays to altering the cocktails and sandwich offering to be completely preg-friendly for those of us with bumps. We also loved the addition of super fresh mini tomato salads and mushroom-filled puff pastries alongside the usual finger sandwich offering. And, despite us starting at 2pm and staying well into the early evening on a busy Sunday, we were not once made to feel that we were outstaying our welcome or rushed off the table.
If you’re thinking of bringing a few extra baby-related decorations to spruce up your table, don’t even THINK about rocking up with a bunch of balloons. Decorative cocktail sticks to pop in the cakes? Absolutely. Bunting to drape across some chairs? Sure! But they “Don’t. Do. Balloons.” You have been warned.
£27 per person for afternoon tea with a special cocktail and choice of three teas is a hard price to beat for an offering of such high quality and in such stunning surroundings slap bang in central London.
If you can’t polish off all the patisserie during your sitting, don’t let them go to waste. Just ask one of the lovely team and they’ll box them up for you to take home and enjoy later. Winner, winner scones for dinner!
From the “wow” factor you feel as you walk through the door, to the delectable sweet treats, friendly staff and warm, lively buzz of the bar and lounge, Ham Yard delivered everything we wanted for a grown-up afternoon with our favourites.
