TRIED & RESTED: Dormy House Hotel & Spa

Dormy House Hotel & Spa, Cotswolds

We selected this boutique hotel in the Cotswolds as the destination for our last hurrah as child-free adults. Located by honey-hued Broadway village – the 17th-century farmhouse has been given a 21st-century twist. Nestle into clean-lined rooms in neutral hues, sit back in the spa, gorge on cleverly composed Cotswolds’ fare in the restaurant or cosy up in the locally-lauded country pub.

Let's cut straight to the chase. I was at Dormy House to be pampered and spoiled ahead of the endless sleepless nights that were to come. So the Spa was a must for a pregnancy-friendly massage although who knew what this entailed given my somewhat awkward shape? A belly-hole cut into the bed? Lying on my side, occasionally turning like a pig on a spit?

Oh no, dear mama-to-be, at Dormy House spa they create what can only be described as a soft, fluffy, warm, pillow-filled cloud which you literally flop forward onto from a chair placed at the side of the bed. This allows your therapist (in my case the magical being that was Becky) to get all those knots and niggles from the top of your shoulders right down to your lumber spine and glutes.

Half-way through, after a quick pillow rearrangement, you lie back on the bed and have your legs, feet, arms hands and bump (optional) oiled and kneaded to perfection using the gentlest pure coconut oil leaving you soft, supple and utterly blissed out.

Combine this with a beautiful spa area complete with Thermal Suite, and outdoor hydrotherapy pool and you’ve got yourself an afternoon that I can now (post baby) only dream of ever having again (sob)!

As gorgeous and low-key as the place is, it is understandably very popular, so with only 12 loungers available in the spa you better be quick to grab one if you don’t want to be dithering around like a maternity-tankini-trussed-up lemon while your other half enjoys the blissful, non-pregg-friendly wonders of the various steam rooms and saunas. Other than this, our welcome, dinner and accommodation were pretty much faultless.

Rooms start from £269 per night / £80 Pregnancy Massage (60 minutes)

At Dormy House, the devil is definitely in the detail. Little touches throughout your stay make it all the more memorable. From someone meeting you at your car on arrival to help with your luggage, to Templespa testers in room (including a blissful Aaaah foot balm and sleep spray) and the thoughtful checkout gesture of bottled water and cookies for your journey. All the ingredients, and more, for an utterly blissful babymoon.
