IT’S A THING: Say Aloe to the Superjuice of 2018

Aloe Vera plant

I have a confession to make. I can’t keep it to myself any longer and, in the interests of “New Year, New Start”, I’ve decided to finally come clean… I don’t like coconut water. THERE! I SAID IT!

The drink du jour of 2017 was not my bag. Yes it might contain magical electrolytes and I’m sure it’s darn good for you but, try as I might, I could not find it refreshing and could not ignore the fuzzy, bleurgh aftertaste that remained long after the bottle was finished.

But wait! There’s a new health drink in town…and it actually tastes nice.

2018’s superjuice is Aloe Vera and we’re fully onboard the bandwagon.

Crisp and refreshing in its lesser concentrated forms, you can happily sup on this at any time of the day and benefit from vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C and E as well as calcium, magnesium, zinc and potassium.

Simplee Aloe Aloe Vera juice drink

For us mamas this means a whole host of health benefits including:

  • Detoxifying properties that cleanse the body and aid digestion – hopefully helping us cut down on our new-found Gaviscon-dependence

  • Calming inflammatory skin conditions – ideal for balancing all those post-pregnancy hormones flying around while our bodies readjust to normality

  • A boosted immune system – much-needed when coming into contact with all those adorable plague babies at mum and baby groups.

But before you go sticking an aloe vera plant into your nearest juicer, we’d recommend trying Simplee Aloe’s Original Juice with White Grape. Never from concentrate, each carton contains at least 35% aloe vera produced from the inner gel of the plant rather than the whole leaf. They also do a version with coconut water if you want the best of both worlds. Available in Waitrose, Whole Foods Market, Asda, Sainsburys and Co op for £2.80 for a one litre carton.
