TOP PICKS: Maternity brands

Maternity clothes. Long gone are the days when this immediately prompted images of frumpy dresses and baggy tops, the high street and small brands have cottoned on to the fact that, just because our bodies have grown a lovely bump, doesn’t mean we have to stop caring about fashion.

We've summed up some of the best maternity brands out there, that will take you from stylish clothes for work during your pregnancy to those that will serve you well in those early, hazy months of breastfeeding a small human.

1. ASOS Maternity

Anyone else spend hours checking their Asos saved bag to see if that must have item is back in stock in your size? Or is that just me? There's nothing like getting a delivery from Asos, especially when you feel like you have nothing to wear that suits your current shape. Asos's maternity range has lots to offer, we particularly love their swimwear section (check out their Riveria floral frill tankini in pic below) as well as their nursing/maternity tops and dresses such as this jumper dress, comfy but also practical for those newborn feeding frenzy days.

2. Isabella Oliver

This is a chic UK maternity brand that is perfect for both work and those classic everyday pieces (think Breton top and figure-flattering work dresses). We also love that they helpfully break-up their website into sections such as their bestselling products, and those items that are for 'maternity and beyond'. Their clothes are more pricey than the high street shops but the investment is worth it: the quality is top notch and you know the clothes will last you for future pregnancies! We love their star jumper, see here (and first pic above).

3. Beyond Nine

I stumbled across this cool London-based maternity brand on instagram and, being a big fan of jumpsuits, I loved what I saw. Beyond Nine caters for those that don't want to give up their stylish clothes when pregnant, and their jumpsuits (see below pic) will work both for pregnancy and afterwards. Check out their Laura Drop Arm Jumpsuit, which comes in navy, charcoal or black.

4. Seraphine Maternity

This maternity brand is loved by celebrities and royals. If that doesn't sell it to you, they also offer a wide range of stylish dresses that work perfectly for work as well as those more fancy pieces when you have a black tie event or wedding to dress for (rare for us these days but hey it's worth mentioning!). Our favourite is the black dot woven maternity dress.

5. Lucy and Yak

This is a fun ethical brand that only launched last year. Not strictly a maternity brand, but Lucy & Yak's loose fitting dungaree range (see pic below) is perfect for mums-to-be and new mums alike, plus they look great. Check out their range here, your biggest issue will be deciding which colour to go for!

6. Just Polly London

Another mention for a small independent brand is Just Polly London, which has designed a stylish but practical maternity range that can be worn after pregnancy too (score!) We like their culottes and the chic range of dresses the brand offers!

7. Topshop Maternity

Another one that's great for basics as well as adding a few stylish maternity pieces for your baby bump wardrobe. And you at least know what you are going to get when it comes to this high street store. Their over-the-bump maternity jeans have been a long-time favourite of mine!
